Istanbul Kültür University has been established in 1997 by Kültür Schools Foundation (KEV), which is one of the oldest private education institutions in our country with 57 years of experience.

The story of our foundation is actually pretty similar to these verses. Our founder and honorary president, Fahamettin Akıngüç, MSc Civil Engineering, laid the foundations for this when he was 70, when his peers had already been contemplating retirement. And for years, he’s been striving to reap the fruits of this olive tree that he planted. Actually, the passion for education in the Akıngüç family goes a long way back. Halil Akıngüç (1900-1957), father of Mr. Fahamettin, established the first private preparatory school in Turkey, Kültür Dersevi (1932).

Having worked as a teacher at Kültür Dersevi when he was a student, Fahamettin Akıngüç also worked as an engineer and contractor after he graduated from Istanbul Technical University until he established Kültür Schools. By synthesizing education with engineering, one of the most prestigious professions of his time, he introduced many innovations that are still in use in his own schools, other private schools in our country (during his period as the president of the Turkey Private Schools Association) and the Ministry of Education.

As an educational institution with a deeply rooted history, our university has been a symbol for educational services for generations, as well as an institution that provides education in accordance with the international standards and national, universal and modern values. With these principles, it is one of the leading educational institutions in Turkey and the European Union.

Istanbul Kültür University carries out its academic and scientific activities with a total of 54 departments and programs in 8 faculties, namely Faculty of Education, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Faculty of Arts and Design, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Faculty of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Health Sciences, and in the Vocational School of Business Administration, Vocational School of Justice and Vocational School of Technical Sciences. In addition to these, graduate education is carried out with 54 Master’s and 11 Doctorate programs within the Institutes of Sciences and Social Sciences.

Ever since it has been established, İKÜ has been preparing young people, from Turkey and all over the world, to life with its campuses in Ataköy, Şirinevler, and İncirli.
